How to take care of your health and fitness when working from home

How to take care of your health and fitness when working from home

Health: Working from home may seem like a great opportunity to relax and take it easy. You can wake up later, you don't have to travel to work, and you can avoid talking to someone you don't want.

But while that all sounds great, it can end up being too much of a good thing.

Going outside is actually quite crucial for vitamin D and fresh air. Talking to people is good for our mental health. And not commuting can mean you only get 1000 steps a day. All this can seriously damage your health!

So what can you do? Here are some tips that will make a big difference.

Spend time outdoors

Somehow you MUST spend time outdoors. A powerful tip is to go outside in the morning as it also helps you adjust your body clock for a better night's sleep.

At the same time, it can also be helpful to take long walks. Try wearing a fitness tracker that counts your steps and tells you if you need to exercise more - the results can be shocking once you work from home!

Protect your sleep

If you do not sleep enough, you cannot train optimally. It's that simple. So make sure to protect this and search the term 'sleep hygiene' on Google for more ideas.

Separate work and downtime

One of the biggest dangers of working from home is that you don't give yourself real 'free time'. You can always become "half-working" and never completely relax.

To make sure this doesn't happen, set a strict rule that you will always finish the work at the same time every day - and stick to it. At the same time, turn off notifications from work-related apps in the evening or use a separate work phone.

Your ability to work is based on energy and motivation. These are finite resources, meaning they need to be replenished!

Practice!

We've already touched on the importance of walking, but any kind of exercise is important to keep your at-home lifestyle from taking over.

Try yoga, some functional fitness moves, or just go jogging. This not only helps prevent health problems, but also improves your energy and focus thanks to the positive impact that exercise has on the brain.
